Growth Kinetics - Introduction

Growth kinetics of Bacteria is studied by culturing a bacteria of our interest in a liquid medium with limited amount of nutrients. By using Spectrometer, the Optical density of the culture is measured and a curve is drawn by keeping O.D in Y axis and time (hrs) in X axis. Growth kinetics provide insight about the conditions in which the bacteria grows and also at what stage the bacteria secrets primary or secondary metabolite in the media or within the cell. Growth kinetics is depend on the substrate concentration, product concentration, Environmental factors such as temperature, pH and oxygen uptake.
